Lauki Momo

Lauki Momo is a delicious Nepali dumpling, perfect for a cozy meal. It combines the delicate flavor of bottle gourd with traditional spices, wrapped in a soft dumpling skin.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium lauki (bottle gourd), peeled and grated
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Water, as needed

Instructions

  1. 1. In a large bowl, combine grated lauki, finely chopped onion, ginger garlic paste, green onions, ground cumin, coriander powder, salt, black pepper, and soy sauce. Mix well.
  2. 2. In a separate bowl, prepare the dough by mixing all-purpose flour with a pinch of salt and slowly adding water until a smooth dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  3. 3. Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into a thin circle, about 3 inches in diameter.
  4. 4. Place a spoonful of the lauki mixture in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape, and seal the edges well by pinching them together.
  5. 5. Heat oil in a steamer or steam basket over a pot of boiling water. Place momos inside, ensuring they are not touching each other, and steam for 15–20 minutes until the dough is soft and cooked.
  6. 6. Serve hot with a side of soy sauce or your favorite chutney.

Notes

Enjoy these flavorful dumplings as a main dish or appetizer. Adjust the spices according to your taste.
