Lauki Momo is a delicious Nepali dumpling, perfect for a cozy meal. It combines the delicate flavor of bottle gourd with traditional spices, wrapped in a soft dumpling skin.
Ingredients
- 1 medium lauki (bottle gourd), peeled and grated
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons ginger garlic paste
- 1/2 cup green onions, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Water, as needed
Instructions
- 1. In a large bowl, combine grated lauki, finely chopped onion, ginger garlic paste, green onions, ground cumin, coriander powder, salt, black pepper, and soy sauce. Mix well.
- 2. In a separate bowl, prepare the dough by mixing all-purpose flour with a pinch of salt and slowly adding water until a smooth dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes and let it rest for 20 minutes.
- 3. Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into a thin circle, about 3 inches in diameter.
- 4. Place a spoonful of the lauki mixture in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape, and seal the edges well by pinching them together.
- 5. Heat oil in a steamer or steam basket over a pot of boiling water. Place momos inside, ensuring they are not touching each other, and steam for 15–20 minutes until the dough is soft and cooked.
- 6. Serve hot with a side of soy sauce or your favorite chutney.
