Brighten up your holiday table with these colorful shortbread cookies! These delightful treats are not only visually appealing but also melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
Ingredients
- 200g unsalted butter, softened
- 100g granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 300g all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Red, green, and gold food coloring
Instructions
- 1. Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- 2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- 3. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- 4. Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
- 5. Divide the dough into three equal portions. Dye each portion with a different food coloring: one red, one green, and one gold. Mix the dough until the colors are evenly distributed.
- 6. Roll each colored dough into a log, then refrigerate for about 15 minutes so the dough is easier to handle.
- 7. Cut the dough logs into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place them on the prepared baking tray.
- 8. Bake the cookies in preheated oven for 15–18 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- 9. Allow the cookies to cool on the tray for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a more vibrant finish, use gel-based food coloring for deeper hues. Perfect for festive occasions and sharing with loved ones.
